As wildfires rage through California and PG&E cuts power to millions of people, we’re bringing together communities that have been unfairly burdened with the impacts of a dirty, dangerous energy system to demand a safe, reliable, community-and-worker-owned energy system that benefits all Californians, especially the people most harmed by PG&E and California’s other for-profit investor-owned utility monopolies, Southern California Edison, San Diego Gas & Electric and SoCal Gas.

Be a part of the movement to Reclaim Our Power!

A campaign fighting to hold PG&E accountable while working towards a just transition for a community & worker-owned energy system

7 years ago this week, PG&E’s faulty equipment s 7 years ago this week, PG&E’s faulty equipment sparked the Camp Fire that burned Paradise to the ground. It was the deadliest fire in California history, killing 85 people. And it was entirely preventable. PG&E knew about the risk but prioritized their profits above our safety.

For-profit utilities cause hundreds of wildfires every year in California. Executives pocket millions in bonuses for cutting safety budgets, ignoring maintenance in order to boost stock prices and shareholder profits, all the while knowing their outdated infrastructure is a death trap.

The new film the Lost Bus captures the terror and trauma of the Camp Fire – and the criminal negligence and greed of PG&E.

We stand in solidarity with the survivors, many of whom are still fighting for justice and fair compensation.

And we are building a movement to abolish PG&E, take the profits out of our energy system, and replace it with a People’s utility that works for us, not Wall Street shareholders.

📣 FRIDAY: Stop PG&E from jacking up our rates t 📣 FRIDAY: Stop PG&E from jacking up our rates to boost their profits…AGAIN!

PG&E is at it again – asking the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for ANOTHER MASSIVE RATE INCREASE that will raise your bill by an average of $42 PER MONTH – or $500 PER YEAR!

This rate hike comes at a time when healthcare premiums are going up, public benefits are being cut, many workers are unable to work because of ICE raids, and our communities are struggling. Most California households simply don’t have an extra $500 in the bank.

WE CAN FIGHT BACK! Turn out to the CPUC hearings in FRESNO THIS FRIDAY to oppose the rate hike, and share your story of how you’ve been harmed by PG&E’s skyrocketing utility bills!

WHAT: Public hearings to oppose PG&E’s latest rate hike!
WHEN: Friday, November 7th at 2 PM** and 6 PM
**RALLY at 1PM (see slide #2 from our friends at @solar_rights_alliance )
WHERE: Hugh Burns State Building
2550 Mariposa Mall, Suite #1036
Fresno, CA 93721

Everyone deserves safe, clean, and affordable energy. But right now PG&E has the highest energy rates in the continental U.S. And Fresno residents have the highest utility bills in the country due to extreme heat in the summer, which is only getting worse every year because of climate change.

In 2024 alone, PG&E raised our rates 6 times so their shareholders could profit. Last year, PG&E made record profits of $2.5 billion — and we paid for it.

We believe energy should be a human right. No one should be forced to choose between paying their PG&E bill or feeding their family.

If we don’t speak out, the CPUC will almost certainly rubber stamp PG&E’s request. Join organizers and ratepayers in telling the CPUC: Don’t let PG&E profit off the backs of its customers!

🔊 URGENT: Tell Gov Newsom to STOP for-profit ut 🔊 URGENT: Tell Gov Newsom to STOP for-profit utilities from CHARGING US for their political lobbying – SIGN AB 1167 & SB 24 TODAY!

Did you know that for–profit utilities spend MILLIONS of OUR MONEY every year on political lobbying and advertisements?

They’re CHARGING US to lobby against clean energy, good climate policies, utility reform, or ANY legislation that would benefit our communities at the expense of their corporate profits.

Two bills on the Governor’s desk would curtail this spending and protect consumers:

➡️ AB 1167 would ban for-profit utilities from using customer money for political activities, lobbying, promotional advertising, and dues for trade associations.

➡️ SB 24 would ban investor-owned utilities from using customer money to lobby against utility municipalization efforts and strengthen the California Public Utility Commission’s investigatory authority.

Call Gov. Newsom TODAY: Sign these bills and protect Californians from utility corruption and out-of-control energy bills!

CALL GOV. NEWSOM:
📲 (916) 445-2841

SAMPLE SCRIPT:
*My name is [YOUR NAME] and I’m calling to urge Governor Newsom to sign AB 1167 and SB 24 to stop utilities from charging customers for lobbying and political campaigns.

*93% of California voters agree that utilities should not charge customers for wasteful spending, including lobbying, PR, and marketing.

*With families facing record-high utility costs, AB 1167 & SB24 will provide commonsense guardrails to protect customers. These bills deserve the Governor’s signature.

*Thank you for your time.

Newsom has until October 12 to sign or veto. Thank you for taking action today!

California legislators quietly killed Senate Bill California legislators quietly killed Senate Bill 332, the Investor-Owned Utilities Accountability Act, which would have studied not-for-profit alternatives to PG&E, SCE and SDG&E.

Once again, our state’s lawmakers refused to invest in solutions that address the root cause of our energy affordability crisis – the investor-owned utility monopolies’ profit motive – despite overwhelming public support.

While we’re disappointed, we’re also filled with so much gratitude for EVERYONE who supported the bill! 113 organizations and over a DOZEN local elected officials, collectively representing millions of Californians, endorsed SB 332. Despite this setback, our movement to make clean affordable energy a human right in California is stronger than ever.

Thank you to everyone who signed onto our support letter, called your legislators, joined us in meetings, and posted on social media!

Huge shoutout to the Center for Biological Diversity for being a co-sponsor of this bill with Reclaim Our Power, and to all of our coalition members who threw down for this bill.

Much appreciation to the bill’s author Senator Wahab, and co-authors Senator Hurtado and Assemblymembers Garcia and Ortega, for challenging some of the worst corporate villains in the state.

Thank you all for fighting with us for utility justice. The fight is far from over! We will continue to fight for solutions that put people and the planet over profits.

ACTION NEEDED: Call TODAY to OPPOSE AB 825, the “Regional Power Grab”!

Call Senator Monique Limón at (916) 651-4021 and Senate Pro Tempore McGuire at (916) 651-4002 TODAY to STOP AB 825, the “Regional Power Grab!”

Regionalization would create an unstable future where California would no longer have autonomy over many energy decisions including where our energy is sourced, leading to higher bills, more climate warming greenhouse gas pollution, and subsidies for more dirty coal power.

They will be voting tomorrow! Tell these key legislators to VOTE NO on AB 825 to protect California’s authority over our clean energy policies, our environment and the well-being of California residents and ratepayers.
